The Isle of Wight Gateway Club is a registered charity based on the Isle of Wight.
The services we provide are offered to residents all over the island and transport is available on request.
Affiliated to Royal Mencap and the Isle of Wight Council, Gateway club adhere's to strict policies and procedures agreed by out trustees and through Royal Mencap.
Gateway have the use of a 13 seater minibus, donated by the Lady Taverner's charity. Thanks to them we are able to transport club members safely to and from club meets and events.
Many of the volunteers and trustees that help to run Isle of Wight Gateway club have disabilities themselves. All volunteers are supported to do their job effectively and have access to many opportunities for training and work experience. All staff and volunteers are enhanced CRB checked through Royal Mencap.
Members of the club help shape the development of club activities by taking part in sub-committee groups. Volunteers with learning disabilities run a sub group in both adult and junior areas of the Isle of Wight Gateway Club. The minutes of both sub groups are reported to the main committee and to club managers to ensure members have the opportunity to be heard.
50% of the executive committee of Isle of Wight Gateway Club, have a learning disability. We are fully committed to enabling and empowering people with disabilities and ensure that the Isle of Wight Gateway club is led by its members.
The Isle of Wight Gateway club strives to offer choices, empowerment, independence, and equality to all of it's members and volunteers. By working with numerous agencies in the voluntary and statuatory sector we ensure that individuals with disabilities are included within their communities and can do the things they want.
